After 7 weeks of depression since my accident and not knowing if I'll ever be able to fly again because of these rods holding my spine together,I am just on the way back from seeing the Surgeon at Gobowen hospital and he answered my worried questions,
Could I fly again?Yes
when? 12 months
Could I get these rods taken out in time?Yes
What would be the results of a bump?no different with rods in,your spine won't shatter with rods in,if you have a hard bump and your spine shatters it would without the rods in anyway.(not that I wanna experience that again, but now I have peace of mind)
Yes this experience will slow me down and yeah I'm lucky I got away lightly under the circumstances, but I'm over the moon I don't have to give up the love of this sport.
I now have a goal and it's 12 months.
I will be back safe:-)

Hi Adam - Great news. Welcome back to the flying world.
When are you in Turkey?
I fly out in the morning! If it is in the next 2 weeks give me a call. I am 5 miles form Olu Deniz...in a bar some where, or in the hills walking.
See you soon!

Thanks for your posts guys.
In the past 7 weeks I have been watching what's been going on on the forum,I just didn't want to become a couch flyer and I was really thinking that my flying days had been and gone and to just appreciate the times I had.
I sent myself into the biggest spiral dive I've ever done but this one was in my head,I've always had the passion for the flying and when you really start believing you will never do it again, you realise just how hooked you really are.
Sitting there yesterday with the surgeon was like sitting with God,I really thought he wasn't going to give me anything I wanted to hear and I was so shocked when he answered my questions in a way I wanted to hear.
Now I have hope a goal and I'm climbing out of a hole(poetry hey)
Joan and Keith I go to Turkey on 27th so not long now,I'm not too bothered about not flying now that I know I will again soon, maybe I'll go up Babadag and help with some launches up there.
One thing through all this is the friends I've got and i would like to thank you once again for the support and help and some of you who have gone beyond the call of duty in keeping me going, helping me out in all different ways, you really are true friends.
Thank you.
Well hope to see you all again soon on the hill:-)

Great news that you're on the mend and that you'll be able to get flying once again. Take it easy, don't rush and have a great time in Turkey.

Hi Adam
Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery, broke my leg in mid June so can understand something of what must have been going through your mind about not flying again. Its not so much a sport but a way of life.
I've had 2 accidents in 13 years. The first not long after passing my CP could have been much more serious when my glider tucked and dived at low level. I hit the ground face first from about 50ft, got up and walked away. Curiously the second was nothing more than a slightly hard landing but by bad luck someone had buried a railway sleeper in the grass!
I reckon its not so much the actual accident that hits you rather the effects of it, especially what goes through your mind and the effect on those around you! As you say the first few weeks can get to you!
Great to hear there is light at the end of the tunnel though, had the same myself two days ago as I was told that all the bits of bone were put back in place!
Speedy recovery!
Regards
Roy
