Hi,
as you all know, the gliding club sometimes aerotows out from the ridge, i.e. with the tug, launching at right angles to the ridge, in an east-west direction, by their club house. This means they are launching straight through the hang and paragliders. This can be a bit of a problem if there's a lot of people flying, and for safety reasons we have decided that, rather than just shout at us to get out of the way, they will use a klaxon to ask us to make a bit of space for the tug to launch. So, there will be a Land Rover present with working strobe
lights/flashing beacons, equipped with a klaxon. This will sound a long blast on the klaxon to make us aware that they are waiting to launch.
So if you hear the klaxon, or a horn, just move away to give them room to get off. A mid-air between a tug, sailplane and paraglider wouldn't really be a good thing.
This will only be used for the tug launches in a westerly direction. Other launches won't use the klaxon, since they are less of a problem.
Geoff.
